Which version of Windows should I install?

Although I would like everyone to be running the latest version, one must settle for the newest version that their system will run well. Unfortuneately, there is no good rule of thumb I have ever seen and I usually make a personal assessment of the machine coupled with the user's personal needs. If you contact me I will give you my opinion.

Note: I would suggest people avoid Windows ME & NT as I will not install those OSes and I generally avoid supporting them.
